Global Chip Dynamics
About this programme
SNV’s programme, Global Chip Dynamics, assesses the resilience of the semiconductor industry and Europe's strategic positioning based on the following two questions:
-
How can Europe ensure the supply security of the semiconductor supply chain in a time when external shocks and geopolitical dynamics regularly affect and destabilize this important sector?
-
How can Europe enhance its competitiveness in an era defined by several challenges, such as US-China technological tensions, China’s push for self-reliance and ambitious sustainability goals?
By analysing the interplay between geopolitical dynamics at play in the semiconductor value chain, we aim to identify the implications of global rivalries for Europe’s leadership in different semiconductor technologies. Similarly, we are convinced that the competitiveness of the semiconductor industry will increasingly depend on its sustainability in the years to come. Through our work, we want to address these two challenges equally with the goal of aligning urgently required policy decisions with strategic insights and Europe’s values.
Our aim is to support Europe's continued relevance and indispensability in this foundational industry amidst ongoing global shifts. To that end, the research programme offers insights into the technology and industry, quantitative analysis and recommendations for policymakers, so that they become better equipped to navigate this complex industry.
